After watching 'Finding Vivian Maier,' I was left very intrigued by Maier's mysterious yet chaotic life. I find her story to be extremely interesting, as it isn't a typical story of a famous photographer, let alone a famous artist. Her work was only truly recognized after her death, which I find to be unfortunate, as I wish she could have lived to see the fame that she and her photos grew. I feel that having her talents recognized during her life would have possibly been beneficial for her troubled life as a nanny. Amidst all of the drama and chaos that occurred in her personal life as a nanny, she managed to capture street photography in such a life-like and intimate way. Her photos seem to capture life in a pure moment, and with a raw feeling to them. Vivian Maier's photos don't attempt to deceive you or lie to you, they come off as truthful and real. Even with that rawness, Maier manages to make the photos appealing to the eye with interesting composition.
Vivian Maier appeared to have a very introverted lifestyle, with very little social connection. Through her photos, it seems as though she was not afraid to capture the lives of other people through photos, regardless of if she knew them. From the short documentary that we viewed in class, Maier appeared to almost be in her own world. While this could be seen as a negative attribute, I find that it makes her story even more interesting. We know so little about her, but her photos tell a deep story about her own creativity and vision.
